Sound cards with optical output.

Do sound cards exist that have optical output? and if they do are they really expensive?

yes and if you only want an optical output you ca get c-media or realtek based careds for <£20. i cant tell you where though.

Oh right brilliant ill have a look around! its just the sound cards on OCUK look a bit expemsive?!

yeah they ocuk dont sell cheap cards for some reason.

i have to ask you, why do you want optical output specifically?

Why do you need an optical output? If it is to output sound from games, most will only be in 2.1 when connected to a receiver.
You would need a Dolby Live sound card to output game sound in 5.1 which would put the cost up a bit.
If it is just to output DVD film audio then that is fine because most cards can pass through the raw stream from the disk in 5.1.
