Will it Free up system resources
Do you get proper Dolby srround or sumthing similar because the nVidia stuff is rather crap.

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

It will free up a miniscule amount of system resources and give you an extra Mhz or two to dedicate to running Windows.

You might get 'proper Dolby' if you choose a suitably qualified card and have an appropriate speaker system to benefit from it.

Nvidia don't actually make the "rather crap" audio processing units. The sound chips on the nForce4 series of motherboards are usually RealTek 850ALU's. I actually find the onboard sound these chips provide to be pretty decent, maybe you have special hearing capabilities?

You hearing what I'm saying?

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

:p

Whats that all about? :)

He's Posting Mad!... (You say Mooooooo a lot when your mad!! :D )

Anyhew unless you want DD/DTS and even possibly THX (you need the Speakers though and they're not cheap!!), or You do a lot of Music Production etc... its probly not worth the extra expense!... The Realtec Audio Procesor is quite capable quite decent 5.1/6.1 or 7.1 (depending on what flavor you've got!!) but you do need decent speakers!!

Ive just had an Audigy2 Platinum eX. For only just under £60 its got to be the bargain of the lot in the sound card section.

i have standard 5.1 Speakers, each channel will do wotever it's told 2 do, it's up 2 the software or sound cardto do the surround sound. I know its Realtek that do the onboard sound.

For a start when you select 5.1 it ruins the song, it can't even control the bass levels against the channels, so i put the LFE on 500 just 2 get a slight improvement, then i have 2 select "rock on the EQ" to make it sound like music, and if u add sum echo in the environsments your speakers sound like there gona blow.

I listen 2 music regurlary and i like my music to sound like music out my 5.1 Speakers without manipulating it. Don't get me wrong the Realtek onboard sound is imposible 2 critize with 2 channel sound (headphones), However the Realtek onboard has a terrible signal-noise ratio, always get cracks in the rear speakers

I want something like a live dolby prologic II decoder so my stereo music can sound like serround sound, or just sound nice out of 5.1 speakers ?

What sort of advantages will i get on a sound card ?

You've mixed up 2 completely different technologies there, both of which are meant for external amps.

Dolby Ditial Live - a technology on souncards which creates dolby digital in realtime and sents it out over either coaxial or optical SPDIF to a dolby digital decoder. For this you need either a Montego DDL or X-Mystique.

Prologic II - Normally found on amps and turns a stereo source into surround with inteligent upmixing.

Its an excellent card mate. Very good sound quality and sounds amazing in games too.

Well worth £60 of anyones cash.

i know exactly what Pro Logic II is because its on my TV,

I used the word Live because i was refering to a suround sound signal being created within the sound card from a stereo source in real time.

Seems no1 can actually give me an answer to why get a sound card, but just state the obvious, u know i have touched a computer before ?

Anyway i done my own research so if anyone came here for help read this post:

Sound cards can make music sound like how it was when it was on CD by restoring the loss in compression. Which therefore helps the music sound really like music (unlike the realtek one).

Also Creative doesn't do dolby but EAX effects that can react the same feel of surround sound. I recomend the Creative X-FI Music one

plain and simple - you wont get a decent answer if your being an arse about it.

Dace answer all the questions in your original post so what exact is your problem?

yes it will free resources, but not much.
No, you dont get dolby surround although there are plentry of ways to get surround sound with soundcards that is very nearly as good as DPL.

Music is 2 channel. listen to it in 2 channel if you value sound quality AT ALL. if you really want to destroy your msuci and listen in surround sound, then just use any program to listen to music and a suitable surround sound plugin.

There, i think that it all covered.

Forget it, I was going to say something but in light of the thread starters attitude problems I won't bother as he clearly knows it all already.
