what is the point of sound cards? i really cant hear the difernce in intergrated sound card and my mates creative sound card....

Speakers must be crap then, 1 aint much good without the other and probably playing compressed audio.
I could tell the difference straight away, and that's with a Creative card which are pretty crap for music, compared to emu, m-audio etc.
If you've got some crap speakers you won't tell the difference, bit like having £2000 CD player, £2000 amp and £20 speakers.

Wouldn't it be too late?
But yeah totally agree, if your not going to invest in speakers the point is negligable unless you just after slightly faster fps in games. I have cheapish speakers and mid range headphones but both were vastly improved after adding my X-Fi XtremeGamer.

even with cheaper speakers you should be able to hear the difference. I heard the difference right away.
With onboard sound the sound is basic. When playing games the difference is obvious..
