Sound coming from PSU

I have this sort of grinding sound coming out of PSU. It started to happen yesterday, sometimes it gets quite loud and other times the sound goes! Is this a sign that is it failing? It is a OCZ StealthXstream 500W and I've had it for about 3.5 years.

If it needs replacing any recommendations for a PSU for about £50? It has to be whisper quiet!

It's not as high pitched as that. It sounds more like when a hard disk drive is thrashing away (and its definitely not the hard drives making the noise). The noise is actually continuous now but much quieter.
