Sound corruption in GRID

I've just bought Racedriver GRID and, although the sound is fine within the menus, when I'm actually racing there is sound corruption and I don't know why?

I am running my X-Fi card in 'Game Mode' and whether I have 'Hardware Acceleration' enabled or disabled, I still get the corruption.

I only seem to get this problem with GRID as my old racing game (TOCA Race Driver 3) works fine.

In the Creative Audio Control Panel I have the 'EAX Effects', 'X-Fi CMSS-3D' and 'X-Fi Crystalizer' all disabled.

Any ideas how to remedy this problem?

p.s. I've recently patched my game with the v1.2 GRID patch and it's only now that I've experienced this sound corruption problem so I think I'll uninstall GRID and reinstall it without bothering with the patch

updated drivers for the sound card?
Yes I'm running the latest drivers.

It must have been an intermittent problem as it's alright now

What used to happen was that when I pressed the accelerator button on my X-Box 360 joypad, I got background noises but when I'm not pressing the accelerator button, the ingame sound went back to normal.
