Sound crackling

Mmmmm none of them are above 1ms of lag so I don't think it's a driver issue.. It's pointing more towards a hardware issue tbh. Any sound cards laying about?

I was leaning towards that. Was thinking of recommending they buy a sound card to try.

Do you think it'll get rid of this issue with a separate sound card?

I know it's not the GPU as that's been removed. Maybe send the board back i guess if they don't want to get a Sound Card.

what board is it?

tested with c1e disabled in the bios? that usually causes crackle at idle

its either psu/mb/gpu or a combination of any of those, doubt another soundcard will cure it

A sound card will fix it if the issue is damaged onboard audio chipset..

It could be a power saving feature, could you put windows into high performance mode and see if that fixes it..

Cpu power state can also sometimes course the issue with audio but from my understanding they are extremely rare.

it didn't fix it on my x58,i stuck a xonar dx in and it still screeched like mad,my z68/z77 are screech free so im guessing it was the board

don't think I ever had an x58 board that didn't screech

disable c1e use balanced power profile in windows, cpu will still enter idle state it will be the os controlling it rather than the mb

The board is a gigabyte ga-z97p-d3. I've also tried the High Performance mode.

I may recommend they get a new mobo, but I'm back at the office on Tue so will try the c1e fix.

Thank you all for your help, been top draw!

Hi all,

An update to the issue.

Disabled c1e but made no difference. Will try a soundcard and i guess if that doesn't work the mobo will have to go back. It's less than a year old.

Sorry for the delay in coming back to you guys, I swapped USB port and now it works fine. Feel so stupid for not trying that in the first place.

Thanks for all the responses.
