I have my speakers plugged into the back of my computer via Creative X-Fi Game card and i also have my onboard sound from my motherboard (Gigabyte P35C-DS3R) plugged into the my Antec 182 case.

However, my i plug my headphone and mic into the front my case panel which is connected to my onboard sound it doesnt seem to pick up, plugging it to the back onto my sound card works.

Is there a way i can use both instread of having to go to the back for my headset headphone?

Thanks

yeh the I/o connectors for your front panel can plug into your gamer. theres a set of about 12 pins on the back of your gamer.

your'd have to google to find out which ones are for your mic etc however as i really cant remember. :(

You cannot use your onboard at the same time as the Card they can conflict.

He means unplug the headers (wires) from the motherbaord that go to the Audio Sockets on front of your case and plug them into the pins on the X-FI. (you can google for a pin layout others have done it.

You can have both cards installed and working, but not both outputting sound at the same time. In Windows and most games, you select which card (and card output) you want to use. I currently use my X-Fi to output sound, and my onboard as the mic input, because for some reason the X-Fi refuses to recognise any microphone in Vista :(

Obv that what I mean, how many peeps get issues with a new Soundcard as they dont have Onboard disabled, the answer is lots.

Anyhow thats not what he is asking, he wants his Front Audio Connections working.

The Mic works in Vista even 64 if you change settings, cant remember 100% but its Flexijack or such.

Hate to add more confusion here but I always thought the following.

Your case has ports.
You plug the connectors into the motherboard
The case can now be used for the connectors as they are plugged into the board.

These are usually 2 front USB ports, an audio port and sometimes a firewire port.

I have those 3 plugged into my motherboard and I use an x-fi. The onboard sound I disabled as I belive x-fi is better than the usual pile of poo onboard stuff.

Now I can say I have not plugged my headphones into the front case port as my speakers are BOSE companion 3 so the volume dial has a port there which is much easier to use.

I will however plug my headphones into my case port and check to see if it works.

I belive it will work and asked a friend about this to confirm and he said the same (he is pretty well qualified in various PC areas).

Anyway, I will confirm this when I get home from work.

EDIT: I would just like to add that the front audio connections are not some magical speakers that are attached to the case, they are simply to allow you to use the audio output (and sometimes another audio port on the case). Much like the USB port on the case and the firewire port, they just enable them for use.

I belive you dont need the onboard drivers installed to use the panel audio ports but as I said above, I will confirm this later.

Just been looking into doing exactly the same thing as I have an old set of cambridge soundworks speakers from years ago that i plan using for playing backing track music which i jam away on my guitar.

currently ive been using headphones which have a tendancy to fall off a lot when im moshing like a mofo.

I do not unserstand 1 part of post #8

If you used to have the Front Audio Ports on your case connected to your Mobo headers and they all worked, now that you have a dedicated Soundcard you will need remove those cables and plug them into the headers on the X-FI.

It isnt quiet that simple, creative in all their wisdom added the headers on the cards but not in a convetional mannor, so in order to connect the front panel audio on your xfi card you with either need connect the wires up (providing they fit and you know the pin outs) or buy the creative front panel box which costs around 50 quid afaik.

I went for the easier option, just enabled onboard audio and connected it to that as my case had connections for the mobo already.

As i get more and more proficient with my guitar i will more than likely invest in an maudio device so i can hook my guitar up directly to the pc.

I know it aint simple, I have had Creative cards since 2001 and never use Onboard.

There is pin layout guides avail, Google it or visit the Creative forums.
