Hi guys, so I have been using my Beyerdynamic DT770's for a good 6 months now with my soundcard and I absolutely love them. Have been considering going the next step to improve the sound quality for my system but not sure what is best to get. Have a good £700 to spend, can I get anything worthwhile for that?

Cheers lads much appreciated.

jesus christ yeah and then some.

look at http://schiit.eu.com plenty of choices all the way up to teh top of your budget but personally don't think you need to spend that much. I'm sure one of teh other guys can probably advuse you of a good in budget DAC and Amp pairing for the dt770's

Thank's a lot mate, kinda new to all of this so I am open to ideas from everyone. I am glad to hear £700 is enough for a decent setup that's great.

What is your soundcard? It would be worth setting some of that £700 aside for a better DAC/amp combo tbh.

For £700 I'd get
Schitt Magnifier 2 uber / Modi 2
Dt1770's which are allegedly a big step up from the dt770s

Thanks for that, do you think my soundcard is good enough or should I get a better one mate?
Silly question but how do I quote more than 1 person on the same reply, always wondered that lol

If you're contemplating £700 on headphones then you will definitely need a better soundcard/DAC/amp combo - hell, for £200 headphones you'd want a better soundcard!

I'd grab something like a Little Dot MkII (or even III) - if you feel like tube rolling!

What kind of sound signature do you prefer? What source do you have etc?

For multi-quotes click on "multi +" on each of the quotes you want to quote, and then "quote" on the last one you want to quote.

I bought a half decent xonar sound card for my dt770s but the reality was that my asus mobo had passable on board audio so that upgrade didn't yield much at all.

The biggest difference came when using a headphone amp, just the Fiio e09k made such a difference, I've been happy ever since. It seems that the DAC part most half decent sound cards seem ok to me, you need a decent amp to drive the headphones cleanly Imo.

However, I do have the upgrade itch and am thinking of getting the kit I listed. The Modi is a half decent DAC, the Magni 2 uber is a half decent amp and the DT1770 are getting good reviews.
I certainly wouldn't spend more than £250 on the DAC and amp, you are well into diminishing returns by that point.

And to multi quote hit the multi + button on the other posts you want to quote, then hit quote on the last one.

On the Little Dot, my ears didn't like it, I think I like very clean bass and impact, possibly because my ears are a bit shot form working in nightclubs and riding motorbikes, but as with coffee, everyone likes something different!

I recently got a Little Dot MkII.

For my DT990 pros (250ohm) it sounds very nice even with the stock tubes, however research suggests it doesn't pair too well with my 35ohm SoundMAGIC HP200 headphones, indeed the bass is a bit loose, so I'm looking at possibly getting a Vali2 instead.

Anyway, point is, I think it'd sound great with your Beyers :)

I run my DT770 80ohms via a Schiit stack of the following:

Schiit Magni

Schiit Modi 2 Uber

Run them great and everyone who's had a listen to them are surprised by how good they sound.

If your wanting to spend more of your budget look at the next stage up i.e a lyr2 amp and bifrost dac

I think IMO if you had a the above 'stack' the cheapest upgrade by far would be the actual headphones?

By far the biggest improvement will come from buying better headphones, so...

Schiit Modi 2 Uber and Schiit Vali 2 (tube hybrid) for a £250 stack, which leaves around £500 for some headphones.

Omg I forgot all about this thread as I have had so much work to do for College. Thanks for all the advice lads I will have a good look after the match ( LFC v Scum ) ! cheers guys.

Of the above list, I would have the HE400i's, but it depends entirely on your preference regarding sound signature.
