Hi Folk's
I have seen this issue a few times and have never been able to find a good resolution. What happens is windows looses the capability to playback windows sounds etc. This does not affect all sound output!
If you go into control panel/sound and audio devices, the following options are blank with no device selected:
* Default Midi device (Under audio tab)
* Voice playback device (Under Voice)
If you select the sounds tab you are unable to play the default windows sounds as these are grayed out.
If you select a default midi and voice device click apply then close the config window and go back into the option they are back to blank!
Last time to resolve this I disabled the on board sound card and installed a PCI sound card I had lying around. This has worked fine for a few months them bump! exactly the same issue!
This is driving me nuts Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Windows XP SP2
Anyone else seen this?
