Hi all,

This may sound like a silly question, if so, I'm sorry :)

I've been looking at upgrading my graphics to the a new gen ATI and also would like a new sound card (i'm using on-board at the moment). On the ati spec list it mentions something about integrated 7.1 . Is there now an audio connector on the card?

if it's the same as the HD3000's which i'm guessing it is, the sound is transfired over HDMI, and there is no audio connector on the card

need the DVI to HDMI dongle which comes with the card, and either a HD TV, or monitor with HDMI and built in speakers. i'm not sure how this sound chip performs compaired to a dedicated or onboard audio solution

If it's like the 3800 series it uses a realtek codec like most motherboards have onboard.

Well AFAIK it outputs the sound digitally so it will sound as good as a dedicated card when hooked up to a TV with a decent speaker system.

Yes it will but the digital signal from onboard sounds as good as from a dedicated card since it's the DACs on onboard that are crap.
