Sound out of sync in Windows 7 .AVIs

As above. Latest drivers are installed. No additional codecs.

Any ideas?

Sorry, meant to add to title, it happens in both WMP and WMC.

Sound in VLC is fine, but as soon as I resize the video, it becomes blocky. So I suppose I need codecs.
