As title.

My setup is usually in my office with a 19" 4:3 lcd and a surround setup. Monitor is connected via D-sub and surround via S/PDIF (Toslink).

The other day I thought I'd connect my pc up to my lcd downstairs which has an HDMI socket on it, just to see what the difference in picture would be. I also connected the pc up to my av amp using both the analogue out and the S/PDIF output.

The pc booted up fine and the lcd displayed a picture but the pc would not output audio via the analogue or S/PDIF cables. There was audio via the tv speakers.

When I connected the pc to the lcd with a D-sub cable audio was restored via the analogue and S/PDIF cables.

I had a bit of a look in some of the settings, but couldn't resolve the issue.

Any ideas?

I'm planing to upgrade my monitor to a 16:9 display. One of the connections is HDMI. I'm woried if I use HDMI I won't get my sound output via S/PDIF.

Hope that kind of makes sense - Quink :)

If you are getting sound out of the TV speakers - then it sounds like the HDMI connection is set as the default audio device in windows. Go into windows control panel > sound and select different devices as the default and see if you can get sound out of your amp. For the best quality I would suggest only connecting to the amp via S/PDIF.
