Hello all
Would like anyone's advice regarding my small problem I'm experiencing on my Surround sound with my PS3.
I currently have my PS3 hooked up to my Sherwood Newcastle R-925 via toslink (optical cable) to my Yamaha NS-P110 surround sound speakers. The problem I'm facing is when using my PS3 for gaming or movies via Dolby Digital, the sound cuts out for a split second then returns.

I know that my Sherwood receiver is old but does the job for what I need it for but I'm frustrated about the small problem as everything else is grand.

Any ideas??

I owned one of these many moons ago for about a year & IIRC it did the same thing, I just lived with it.
Its probably a bug in the firmware.

Thanks Grimly for that. I guess it's a firmware problem. Despite this, I'm thinking of upgrading my AV to a latest one. There's two I have in mind... Onkyo TXSR606 or the Denon AVR1909.

These both have received excellent recommendations and would like to know if I will benefit greatly from this than the current one I'm using now.

AVR 2808. Not had it very long or much of a chance to test it properly (due to room redecorating) 1st impressions with PLIIx engaged are OK, yet to try with HD sound though.

Been quoted a good price from Richer Sound for the Onkyo TXSR606.

There is a post regarding this on a well known audio forum, and here what I posted....

"Wish to upgrade my current Sherwood Newcastle R-925 to a Onkyo TXSR606. Sorry for the silly question that may been asked upteen times before, but will I benefit greatly and notice any sound difference between the two if I brought the Onkyo and use it for my PS3 on Movies, Games and iPhone music?

Also, will I experience TrueHD and DTS HD through PCM as I know PS3 does not do this using bitstream.

One final note, thinking of getting the Onkyo DSA1X docking station too but is it compatible with iPhone 3G?

Many thanks and look forward to any replies"

I understand Denon 1909 is slightly better than the Onkyo but am only looking at a budget of £400.
