i got a new hard drive today from here(after ordering it yesterday) and after the fresh install of vista home premium i updated it, installed kaspersky and when all is now said and done my onboard sound isnt working,
i tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers
when i go into device manager it says that the drivers are up to date and there is a yellow excclaimation mark beside these

Realtek AC'97 Audio
Miscrosoft Kernel DRM Audio Descrambler

i had a problem before when i installed the realtck one so i rolled back the drivers and it worked fine but now the option to rollback isnt available so i cant do that

so my question is this, whats is my best option, going for a cheap soundcard/full reinstall to see if that helps or is there any more options that i dont know about

If there is an exclamation mark, there will be a note about it in the General tab in the Device manager when you check it's properties.

IE my ATITool driver says
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

Because I'm too lazy to boot into the F8 mode that allows unsigned drivers to be installed...

If you can get that message up and tell us what it says, that will help :)

for what it says in properties it says for both exclaimation points
the driver may be corrupted or missing(code 39)

where exactly in the bios, i dont go in there very often, ill check as soon as i post this and report back if i find it

EDIT: nah it says AC97 audio is enabled in the bios
