sound problems

I've got this problem where the sound suddenly stops working, and even prevents any application using any type of sounds from shutting down or starting up. Windows cannot shutdown as well and just sits there.

Looks like the audio device or driver died along the way and isn't responding. Sometimes I get this weird audio and video glitch when watching videos or DvD that seems to be related to the problem.

It's some onboard realtek audio adapter, config in sig. Got the latest drivers from gigabyte, and no indication this is a common problem on that motherboard.

Got any codec packs installed? You might have to uninstall them.

Hi.

Nope. It's pretty much standard fare. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the HDMI output on the video card.

Oh yeah, important point. I'm Using Logitech Z-10 speakers. Although I never had problems with them, I should probably give it a try with direct headphones.
