I recently bought a Antec 300 to replace my CM Cav 3

& I have noticed a major noise increase caused of corse by :

> it being a tinner case
> having twice the fans
> having a mesh front instead of a 3mm thick door

btw my fans are :

120mm tri cool @ low
140mm ti cool @ med

2x120mm zalmans at front @ 900rpm

AC freezer pro @ 900rpm

4850 @ 36% fan speed.

Load are idle sound is the same

Roughly everything is at 20db

And it sits 2 feet away from me on my desk :p

But my question is how much of a difference does foam such as this make?

Is it worth it?

How many DB will it reduce the noise by?

Akasa Sh*tmat isn't worth the paper it's on.
Entirely too light and thin to do anything more than cosmetics. (so usefull maybe for parts where you can't fit anything else)
You need some heavier combination mat like BeQuiet Noise Absorber, Nexus Damptek, Noise Blocker Evo etc to have some effect.

I found the tri-cool fans in my p182 were rubbish, so I swaped them all for scythe fans! Although, my PC isn't as quiet as I would like it to be, but I can only hear it if I listen for it. I have got 5 case fans around 1000rpm, a freezer pro at 800rpm, and the stock cooler on my 8800GT which I am sure doesn't make any noise at all untill under load).

AcoustiPack has heavy layer, but it's very thin and in overal that 2-layer stuff is simply thin... although foam is apparently denser (=better) than Akasa.
Considering open front of your case thicker (~2cm +) absorbtion material layer would be better for better chance of really absorpting something. (anechoic chambers have very thick lining)
