Try checking DXdiag (start --> run --> dxdiag). Check and see if all the sound settigns are correct for hardware acceleration etc. I installed a Star Wars game a few years back and it really messed up my sound. Checked and reset a few settings that the installation had altered and it was al lfine. if you have instaleld anythign recently then it might have altered it. Also check for new drivers etc. :)

Edit: Also try it without the overclock. Whats PSU are you using?

corsair 520

PSU should be fine then, try it w/o the overclock, update drivers and check dxdiag. have you actually installed anythign recently or did it come on suddenly?

try downloading filemon from sysinternals (search on google)

Next time it happens run that and you will probably find that something else is accessign your harddrive (windows updates and antivirus software are prime examples)
