sound via hdmi graphics card

Can anyone explain how this works, does the graphics card need to be linked to your sound card in some way, or is it all done via the pcie 2.0 slot??

If you mean on the newer ATI cards, then they have an audio codec on the graphics card itself. If you check Realtek's website you can find an HDMI audio driver there especially for ATI cards.
