Soundbar for PC

Since my new monitor will not have any speakers I want to get a soundbar. I have looked at the Razer Leviathan, Creative Stage and Panasonic SC-HTB01 and was deciding which to get when I came across comments which concern me about all of them: Whether or not they automatically go into standby when there is no sound input. Clearly this is not a problem during gaming but will be at other times. I don't like the idea that I'll be web browsing and some audio is supposed to be happening and I'll realise that the soundbar has gone into standby. The standby can be disabled in the Panasonic and Razer (firmware hack) but I'm not sure about the Creative. However this does seem to be an unsatisfactory workaround because then the soundbar will stay on after the PC is shut down.

Does anyone have any experience of these or can recommend alternatives? At the moment I am happy with monitor speakers for normal desktop use and headphones for gaming. The low quality of monitor speakers doesn't bother me and of course they are on when the PC is on and idle when the PC shuts down. I want to have an external speaker system which works in the same way.
