Last year I bought a Samsung UD465000 LED TV. Very happy with the TV but I would like to improve the sound. I have a budget of around £200 give or take a few quid, and I've been looking at buying a soundbar. I can't make my mind up on what to get. So far I've come up with this one from Yamaha.

Can anyone recommend this or maybe an alternative ?

Thanks.

Well , my reason for wanting a soundabar is that it is a clean setup. My living room won't accomodate a 5.1/7.1 setup easily and I also don't want lots of wires trailing everywhere.

This time last year I was in a similar position and ended up getting a 2.1 system which allows for expansion to 5.1. Onkyo HTX-22HDX is the newer version of the one I got. It is amazing. Otherwise, sorry can't offer any advice on the actual soundbar.

Just read some reviews on the Onkyo HTX-22HDX. Seems to be well liked. Gives me something else to consider.

I got this system from Richer Sound just before christmas and currently have the rear speakers just next to the front ones since I am in the same position as you and the 5.1 system doesnt really fit in the room, well at least not properly until I decorate and can hide all the cables and what not.

This system is a bargin for the money now since its only £250.

That seems quite tempting. I need to think if I really want to go the 5.1 route. How long are the speaker wires ?

Hide speaker wires under the carpet (assuming you have one)!

Yeah I could do that if I had to. Not sure if I want my room cluttered with satellite speakers. I need to think about it.

The rear left and right come with 10 meters of white cable. The others have black cable and its no last long really I would imagine 3 meters at the most.

There was a review in this months What HiFi i seem to recall. Pioneer, LG etc soundbars in the budget range. The LG 3520A came out on top (had wireless sub also), i would have had one, but it's over a metre wide which is wider than the 37" TV it was for which means i would also need to upgrade the TV........... :)

I've got the Yamaha YSP 2200, admittedly it's way out your price range, but it is pretty impressive.

While i would have preferred a 5.1 or 7.1 system, even with hidden cabling having a 2 year old and 2 cats that knock stuff off everything the soundbar is a great option without fear of something being damaged.

I'd go to a Richer Sounds with a test room and get them to set up a couple of options and have a listen.

Thanks guys. Going to check out some options in town today. As mentioned, it's better to hear before you buy.
