Soundbar

7.1 means you need 7 speakers and a subwoofer. 7.1 soundbars would result in the soundbar using reflective sound or some kind of SRS DSP to imitate 7.1 speakers. Typically this is pretty bad.

The best you'll get with a soundbar is 2.1 or 3.1 (proper channels)
For audio tracks that are 5.1 then it'll downmix to 2.1/3.1

Not into soundbards although I do see appeal and concept of them as a good one. Personally though I'd recommend you buy a AVR and speakers, if you get second hand should get something pretty decent which'll outclass any soundbar, and be upgradeable, and more important if something breaks you can just replace that one item.

wireless speakers still need a wire- power.

Also if you just get 3.1 then the cables are pretty much invisible, just run them along the wall in the corner. You'll only need three speaker cables, plus a RCA for subwoofer.

As above; If you have a Richer Sounds store in your area, pop in and have a listen to a few. £350 is quite reasonable budget for something pretty decent at the budget end. That kind of budget will at least get something considerably better than those people who hope to buy a decent soundbar for £100.

he want's a soundbar and you have posted 3-4 times in this thread and not offered any advice which has been helpful in him getting said soundbar.

not everyone wants speakers or amps. that is why soundbars exist.

guess what i own speakers and an amp. i also own a soundbar.

it's like saying spec me a projector and you turn around and saying buy a tv instead

+1 for Yamaha soundbars they sound great only other i would have would be the sonos playbar but that's much more money.

playbar is rubbish, i've heard it in real life and cannot believe they want £600 for it

I heard it at one of my family's home and it filled the big room with music pretty well with nice punchy bass for the size.I have no idea how well it would cope with surround tasks though and would go for the yamaha rather than the playbar but i was impressed by it money aside.
