Looking to buy a new headset, currently with Sennheiser PC320. Love them.

I was impressed with the Sennheiser PC373D, but then I realised, I would be buying a USB headset for 7.1 surround sound (via software); and the SoundBlaster Z already provides that?

Does this mean if I have a soundcard there is no point buying the expensive headsets with 7.1. I can stick with a core model?

Yes, just stick to a normal headset with 3.5mm jacks.

If you have money for the 373D's you are not far off the new non-usb flagships, the GSP 500 / 600. Check them out.

Game One based to some open HD5xx-model would be very good open headset.

Based on your PC320 being open you have quiet environment and don't need sound quality affecting closed design.
(besides noise isolation closed design is advantage only for strong bass)
