Right guys found a coupole of soundcards during our stock take a few weeks back. These are boxed Retail items that I believe used to be on display in our shop, they will come with a full warranty as if new. Not 100% certain but fairly sure they remained in their boxes on the shelf in the shop. Either way I've slashed the prices to get rid of these now EOL but excellent soundcards.

Creative definitely lost their way after the Titanium series, Tried the recon and Z series and they both suck, I mean badly compared to the similarly priced competition.

Think I read somewhere that Creative actually just re-badged some older Audigy cards and TADAAA Recon and then Z series.

Well the re-badged part might be incorrect as I'm going off information from an audiophile sauce but I have tried the Recon and Z series and they are no better than the Titanium cards and in some areas fall behind which confuses me as they are meant to be the successors.

By rebadged do you mean different chips on a different pcb that's a different size? If not then you read wrong.

Ok so how did I read this wrong you tell me please because your vision must be so much better to get a different sentence from this than I did -

Again I got this from an Audiophile sauce so they might be exaggerating but the Recon and Z series which I have, Sound no better at all when compared to the Titanium series which I also own, The Titanium fatal1ty Pro.

Main reason is the loss of THX branding on the item. I don't know the reason behind it either. The RRP of the titanium HD for example was £179.99 I've priced the remaining UK stock at 99.99 to help creative clear stock they are no longer officially allowed to sell. (they had to lose all stock by the end of January I think)

You are right the Titanium was/is a fantastic card but it is no longer supported and won't have drivers for future versions of windows. So while it may seem like a side step they are different cards for different jobs. I would very much like to see Creative step up and release a true competitor to the upcoming STX II but we will have to wait and see what happens.

The Z series is an excellent range but if you own a high end sound card you'll never need to upgrade till it breaks. That's the point they are an investment that will move from PC to PC with you, when you spend £179.99 you don't expect it to be outclassed in a few years. This is audio not graphics it doesn't evolve with game design or monitor advancements.

I can't ever recommend someone for example upgrading from a D2X to a STX II however if the D2X breaks and you want a new sound card then of course I'd recommend a STX II you may as well invest in the best you can afford it won't be outdone any time soon. That's why neither Asus nor Creative update ranges very often they know wasting money on RnD is not cost effective in comparison to spending money on continuing support on what is already a successful and good range of products.

But you are right, there is little difference to the titanium range and the z series just Creative losing licensing and needing to redo the whole lot to suit. I don' t know the decisions that made all that happen and I can see why if you went from a Titanium to a Z you would be un-impressed. That however doesn't takeaway from these excellent deals on EOL items that I have listed today.

I'm still using the built in sound in my mobo and wondering how much of an improvement i'll notice. I play FM2014, Sims, Sim City and All the Total war games. I currently use a Logitech 5.1 system running over just one audio jack.

After having used Creatives offerings and Asus cards I would go with Asus, They are so much better and you can tell where your money is going OR wait for Creatives next line of cards to see what they offer.
