after a soundcard to compliment the logitec z5500 5.1 speakers i have planned for a new build.i want a creative card from good past experiences but unsure which one would be best.
pc is used for music/films/games so need to be good card

as in ive always used creative cards and never had problems so would rather stick with a brand i trust.
i can afford to get the top x-fi card but think it will be overkill as im not going to be doing and music making, just games and playing music/movies but want a good quality product that's got really good sound quality and is adjustable

Don't waste your money on the fatality, just get standard extreme music oem. Unless you need multiple digital output/inputs on the front panel (although stupid placement, you really want a module to fit on your desk) Just by chance they have this really expensive version.

I have a Creative X-fi with my Z-5500's, sounds good to me. Get the Xtreme music edition, can be had for around £50 I think. You don't really need the retail version either, OEM is fine.

isnt it a pain using digital 5.1 speakers with the standard x-fi extreme music/gamer?

You need the minijack to coaxial adapter. When you're using them in digital mode you will not have EAX processing however so it might be best to connect them via the pass through.
