thought i'd give you all a laugh on a friday evening,

xonar dg arrived today. so eagerly waited quitting time at work. rushed home and chucked it in. disabled onboard rebooted and installed drivers. restart, and oh dear no sound. no problem i thought and tried it all again, still no joy, tried a different pci slot, dammit still nothing.

mmmmmmm i thought, summat weird is going on here. enabled onboard again to make sure speakers hadnt actually blown-no theyre fine.

long story short, 2 hours later and i'm about to strip the whole damn pc right down and then i had a thought...........

MAYBE I SHOULD PLUG THE ******* SPEAKERS INTO THE SOUNDCARD. :rolleyes:

right i'm away to get drunk
 
Almost as stupid as me having a clean in my PC and suddenly it not working. I explain everything to my girlfriend about how it should work, and she goes "have you plugged the power in"..........she hasnt let me forget it yet!

I always do things like that, a trademark of mine is leaving the switch on the back of Psu's in the off position and can never figure out why it's not working :D
 
I did something similar. I removed a 7600GT to change the heatsink and then slotted it back in to see if it still lived. The monitor came up blank, so I took it all apart and reseated it all and tried again, same thing...

..I was just about to reseat it again when I thought that it may help if I actually plugged the DVI cable back in *face palm*
 
I did a pretty stupid thing when I did my CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade. I put the system back together again once it was done, plugged the cable into the graphics card and nothing. So I then plugged it into the onboard graphics and god a picture. So in my genius mind I thought, well- I'll just disable onboard video in the BIOS and it will work. It didn't, and I had disabled the onboard graphics so I couldn't go into the BIOS to re-enable it.

time and effort for this deserves kudos!

cmos reset might have helped, hope you didn't bin the rig??:p
