I have an augidy 4, but I want to hear surround sound in bad company 2. Which is dolby digital. So thus I need a soundcard that can decode digital to audio.

What would be an example of a reasonable priced one?

With speakers, headphones or a digital receiver? If you clarify that I can advise on what you could use.

Assuming you mean the PC version of Bad Company 2, your Audigy 4 will work with surround sound speakers with an analogue connection.

If you want to use the Audigy 4 with a dolby digital receiver via a digital connection you will need the following software upgrade: http://buy.soundblaster.com/_creati...ail&category=Software&pid=F2222SR6PAKH5DGY6SD plus any cables or connectors required for the connection.

You might need one of these to be able to plug in an optical or coaxial cable: http://us.store.creative.com/Sound-Blaster-Digital-IO-Module/M/B002DS2IRA.htm but I don't know anywhere that still stocks them.

Well I know for a fact surround sound works in left for dead, half life 2 and countless other games. But not bad company 2. I assumed this was because badcompany 2 uses dolby digital for audio and my auigidy 4 couldn't decode it...

Now I am confused.

It's for speakers - a 5.1 analogue set.

Would also be a nice bonus if surround sound could work in movies.

For movies, the media player being used will decode DD/DTS, so there is no need for the sound card to do it. An example would be PowerDVD.

Would not the game itself decode the Dolby Digital, like a media player would when watching a DVD?

Right I have now got surround sound in bad company 2! I fiddled with the creatiive audio console and well whatever I did it now works, tis like playing a different game sounds amazing.

Also I grabbed powerdvd and to my amazement have now got surround sound working on dvd's, alongside better visual quality.
