Soundgraph iMON VFD

useful in a HTPC for sure. i bought one but i dont really make much use of it :/
looks really nice, can be very functional. it's a bit wasted in my regular pc and takes up some space, so i've just taken it out this weekend, will save it for a nice HTPC.

What exactly does it do? I never look at the front of CD or DVD players displays, but if you can navigate music collection like the Squeezebox worthwhile.

if you take a few mins to set it up correctly you can pretty much do anything you want if you have the remote in your hand. i'm not too familiar with media centre setups but i imagine this is pretty similar from seeing pictures of MC.

it displays any info you want about your PC (cpu usage, ram, hdd, conection speed), and other stuff it can get from the internet like weather, emails, news, or winamp tracks.

the knob on the front does volume.

it has an IR sensor built in for the remote. once you install the software you can use the remote like a mouse, or use it to launch it's media centre software and get a big ass menu on the screen so u can easily browse through your stuff like pics, movies, music etc.

looks ace to

How's it integrated into "music" can you browse entire collection just by looking at the VFD? I want to do this

Switch HTPC on. LCD TV is off. Load up music section - winamp opens up and media library is accessed via imon. Media Centre's music library is slow and rubbish to browse with custom layouts so don't want to use Media Player . Basically to navigate music like a DAP, just by using the small screen (imon)

I'm not intested in temps and other stuff readings. Thinking about getting a Squeezebox in one room, acessing music from the HTPC, but in the room with the HTPC a imon could do the similar job?

i cant imagine a 2 line display will be much use for browsing a music collection. would be nice if they did the same package with their lcd display instead, though.

i dont think it will work with those out of the box, but the thing is fully programmable with the right software. if you look around for other similar displays (forgot the most popular ones), you can always find links to the programs' websites and there is usually forums and downloads for addons etc to support diff apps (does that make any sense).
