Hi,

I recently bought a house and the next door neighbors aren't really loud but when we go to bed we can hear their tv quietly in the background.

we are looking at the possibility of soundproofing one of our walls to stop the noise.

does anyone know how easy this is to do, or know of any good companies that will do it for me?

You need to line the walls with dense soundblock board and batten out for a quilted mineral wool which will stop both types of sound.

If it's just a party wall then you can run this but you will lose a small amount of space, you will need to re do skirtings and covings and any fireplace will need boarding round, you may need to put some up in between the joists as this is probably where the greatest amount of noise is coming from.

My suggestion, I am not a builder.

Put a stud wall using 2" x 4" at 400mm apart.

Fill with something like ISOVER APR120 acoustic insulation.
Put resilient bars up on the new wall.
Then 15mm of sound block DB or similar
Then glue another later of 15mm plasterboard onto the wall using Green Glue.

There is very little more you can do then this without spending real money.

This website is by far the best resource on the web for soundproofing:

Sadly they are US based but you can get most of the stuff over here.

Party walls can be tricky, but it doesn't sound like you've got a huge issue at present so you might just be OK adding extra mass and dampening adding a layer of green glue and then plasterboard on top (as mentioned by Dr House)
