Hi boys and girls,
I seem to have a very weird problem, which in IMHO has the classic signs of a PSU failure, so much so I just junked the old one and bought a new one, only for it to do the exact same thing hours later.
The PC will just restart itself for no reason and even more weirdly when idle and not under load. There is no BSoD, it just black screens and next screen to come up is the Nvidia graphics card BIOS statement do dad, then PC posts the BIOS information screen, CPU, Memory check et al (basic PC restart). The only thing that I can comment on which seems to have some effect is the screen saver, I am only using the standard XP one but for about 2 days it would not kick in after its allotted time and during this non screen saver period it did not crash once. I know hibernation has a lot to answer for in PC stability (which is off) but are there any known issues with screen savers causing problems?
I have of course exhausted the normal AV scans and Spy-Wear scans which came up blank'O. (This isn't my main rig its a bits rig I use to DL with over night, quite rig). I have CoreTemp running with SP2004 running on small and it never gets above 45 degrees so I do have good case cooling, I thought it might be that too but its not, so any help would be grand before I rip all the hair out of my head.
