sour cod semen

I just got back from Japan and had mostly very good food experiences. I did try some sour cod semen sashami and was not that impressed with it. The texture was unpleasant and it was bland. This is how it looked:

Anybody else had anything interesting / unpleasant / unexpected recently?

It doesn't look like sashimi anyway, because that's sliced raw fish.

sashimi as in raw, they offered it exactly as in that pic, which is what we had, or fried and the translation was the restaurants rather than mine (but most translation in Japan was pretty novel)

it did get that picture through a good image search for exactly that

Seeing as the pic of the sack looks idebpnticle to your pic, then I would say its the sack.

Mountain oysters on the other hand are meant to be extremely tasty,

If you put cod sperm in google it pretty much all looks like that

Sperm is liquid, that's clearly has structure and is the sac.

I think it is sperm sacks like fish have egg sacks rather than it being fish nuts.

It sort of mushes to nothing if you squish it.

Although thinking about it, it would be easier to remove the glands and serve those rather than get the fish to tip it

It was pretty bland to be honest and the texture was grim. Rest of the meal was much nicer (various sashimi, salads, yakitori etc.)

Would you recommend trying it though? One of my favourite parts about travelling is trying all the different local cuisines!

Yeah, why not, it was an experience. I suspect fried may be more interesting.
