source for obtaining large empty boxes?

If you had to sent a large item by post/courier and you need a box to package it in, where would be a good place to obtain such a thing?

Staples? ask at a local supermarket? is there an "empty box store ltd."?

Post office sell them i think, and supermarkets are a great source for free ones

Try Homebase.

My local one has a cage after the tills full of boxes that they have a sign saying you can take to make use of.

B and Q or somewhere is the best for free ones. they pay to get rid of them so are happy to give them away
