Hi all

I want to do a flush and leak test of a loop prior to filling with a ready mix coolant (all radiators have already been cleaned/flushed separately). I'm struggling to find a cheap source of distilled water in the UK. The websites I've found are charging high prices for it once I include the delivery cost.

Does anyone know of a cheap source of distilled water in the UK or would it be OK to do the flush and test with de-ionised water which I can pick up locally really cheap?

I understand the issues of de-ionised vs distilled as a longer term coolant but would de-ionized be OK for this final flush/test?

It's de-ionised water

I "temporarily" filled my loop with it two years ago, never got around to changing it (just dumped a kill coil in the res

I use the halfrauds deionised with mayhem pastel yellow. Had it in the loop for over a year without issue.

I get RO (Reverse Osmosis) water from my local fish store... £4 for 25 litres works a treat for me.

I'm not a fan of wasting money on coolant, and found that the distilled water I bought corroded my quick release fittings to the point where they failed, so have not gone back to it since.

Asda dirt cheap, but you must add a anti-corrosive+biocide to be on the save side to deionised, RO (Reverse Osmosis) water.

De-Ionised from Halfords, £3.50 for 5litres.

I only use it for washing the rads and blocks btw, you'd have to add a silver killcoil or PT Nuke (biocide) if you want to run it in the loop.

De-Ionized from the local petrol station, 100yards from work 5l costs £5 is what we run through loops for leak testing and flushing.
