I've got an ICH7 here that's nude and getting a bit warmer than I like. There are mounting holes on the board but I can't find a heatsink the right size to mount there. Anyone out there know of anything or have a better suggestion than sticking something on with a Shin-Etsu pad?

Yes, it would although I'd rather have a passive unit. I've found some Zalman VRAM heatsinks in the spares box so I could try those.

If that chipset normally works fine without a heatsink and was designed to work without one the akasa heatsink without the fan would probably work fine.

I've found that the akasa chipset cooler does not work with chipsets made of a small core, it fell off mine, you need a chipset with a large flat surface for it to work effectively and stay on.

Yes, it probably would and I think the chipset's large enough to support it. I'll add one to my next order if I can't find something equivalent in the parts box. I'd still prefer something with pushpins that was designed for the job....

The height isn't an issue but it may be too large to be able to use the pushpins as they're much closer together than on the northbridge. I did a quick line-up using an NBF47 and it didn't look like I could get the pushpins close enough.

Not sure what motherboard you are running but on my ASUS P5PL2 i had the large zalman passive heatsink on my ICH7 becuase it was really roasting ( upto 60 degrees in some cases ). Its fits ok becuase the silver arms that hold the push pins are fully adjustable , the only thing i found was that with my new graphics card i had to put the standard asus heatsink back on , as the zalman was way to tall.
