SP Update Boot Drive Failure

So MS sent out a SP update last night and it would seem it causes a boot failure. Switched on this morning and got 'invalid system disk. Replace disk and try again'. This had to be a Windows Update fault as the last thing my PC was doing, was an update before shutting down.

Had to repair the boot sector using the Cd/Dvd 'Repair' option and all is good.

Anyone else had this this morning?

The last time a service pack was released was two years ago....

Yes, but it would appear they released an update to it which caused this. Possibly an emergency update. It could have been co-insidence that windows configured the SP once the update had been applied. I currently only install important or critical updates.

Looking at WSUS there haven't been any Windows updates of any description (other than definition updates for the various anti-malware/virus products) released since last patch Tuesday more than a week ago, for any OS (barring 2000 and Vista, of which we have no machines).

Doesn't WSUS get the updates on the 2nd of each month?

I think the problem here was Microsoft adding the SP1 to be installed automatically instead of manually. I've heard that this would have included additional language packs and something somewere went **** up.

This is a known problem with XP SP3. Shame to see it affecting W7 too!
