Hi.

Tried to install Vista SP1 but after an hour installing it said it did not install so reverting changed, it did this with the RTM version too earlier and I had to re install windows, did it again today but lukilly I had a ghost backup but still I need SP1 and why is it doing this?

I downloaded it via windows update, why do I need to slipstream it? Is there something in SP1 thats causing it not to work?

Do yo get to the screen where it says updateing 1 of 3?
then it does 1 and 2 then reboots to install part 3?

If so when it restarts to install part 3 press F8 go into safe mode and it should do it.
With me it was the realtek sound drivers that was causing mine to mess up.

I installed all the MS updates before SP1 then installed SP1

hope that helps

It gets to step 3 but takes aaages then says it cant be installed and restoring and takes forever.

Will do, so were abouts do I go to download SP1 and install it? Dont want to have to go through windows update again.

Hi.

I tried installing it in safe mode but it just takes even longer and does not get past 50%, should I try a fresh install of windows and as soon as I'm in just get all updates and do nothing else untill SP1 is installed?

Is it more likely to work by getting the file from above? I'd rather do it through windows update now as the file size of smaller.

I recieved an extra disc when my copy of vista 64 arrived that had SP1 on it. I too had problems installing it though.

In the end I wiped my c: partition, full formatted, installed vista, installed all latest drivers and updates, then tried Sp1 again, and failed. But, for some reason whenever the machine was restarted it tried to install it by itself, after failing another 5 times, it finally worked? God knows why it took so many goes, but I've noticed that Vista magazine have failed at their own attempt to put SP1 on the cover disc so I presume there's a fault with the install code? That or it doesn't like being installed with an overclock running.
