I have set this system up yesterday and it has been working all night. This morning, switched it on and there is no video (monitor in power saving mode)

System Details:
Shuttle SP35P2
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
Memory: OCZ 4GB (4x1GB) PC2-6400C4
GFX: BFG 8800 GTS 512MB
HD: Seagate 500GB 32mb cache
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit

Initial Issues:
Had trouble with OCZ memory initially where Shuttle would hang at "shuttle screen" when booting up. Used only 2gb, Cleared CMOS and set voltage higher in bio and this seemed to have fixed it - 4gb works fine on higher voltage.
Had issue where shuttle would restart itself after switching off (either by me shutting down in windows or pressing the off button) After installing the sata dvd writer, it seemed to shut down correctly after.
After all this, it seemed to be working (Got vista patches, nvidia drivers) restarted / shutdown a few times.

This morning when switching it on, system does not post (no video) at all.
Fans and Lights on, no video.
Blue light at front blinks every 1-2 seconds
Orange light (HD?) at front blinks every 3-4 seconds
Shuttle fan is quiet, 8800GTS fan is loud (it was quiet yesterday) DVD rom still works.
Seagate makes a small seeking sound every 5-6 secs

-Removed all parts except Memory (1gb) tried all dimms an CPU - no change
-Tried all different combinations with 0/1/2 gb ram on all dimms - no change
-Reset cmos button - no change
-Took battery out and reset cmos - no change
-Tried VGA adapter on 8800GTS - no change
-Tried PCI graphics card (vga) - no change
- Removed CPU - the 92mm fan is much louder, no blue lights and no orange lights at front.

At this point i do not know what to do. Do i RMA the shuttle or the CPU? or could it be the memory?

It just hangs until I turn it off. Tried resetting cmos, took battery out. unplugged everything. Nothing helps.

For the 1 day that it was working, when I start it up the 8800 GTS would make a big whoosh (loud fan) and then goes really quiet when bios loads.
Now it is just constantly on loud, bios doesnt load ..and I can't get any further than that apart from switching it off.

I don't know what bios I was on as I didnt note it down. Now that I started googling for a fix..I see theres a few new bios out and a lot of people have issues with shuttle :(

Sounds like the same fault I had. The SP35P2 initially on release had a problem with its BIOS, which meant you cant get it working at all due to the BIOS not initalising or something.

Mine ended up being RMA'd as the only way to solve it was a BIOS update and you cant turn the PC on the fix this.

I do not wish to alarm you, but there are numerous reports of BIOS Q incorrectly setting the CPU voltages for the E8400, and frying the chip, resulting in the symptoms you describe.

Shuttle have since removed BIOS Q from their site, but this obviously doesn't help anyone who has already used this BIOS in conjunction with an E8400.

Best course of action is to contact Shuttle support immediately - i'd say you were due a refund for your CPU from them, if you can get them to admit culpability that is!

I wouldnt get ahead of yourself to be honest, as the SP35P2s were nutorious for having boot problems on the early BIOS's, so it could well be the shuttle.

sigh, whats wrong with shuttle :( don't they QA anything nowadays?
I have contacted shuttle support who just tells me to RMA it to the shop I purchased from. But i'm now wondering if it is the cpu that I have to RMA...

Easy way to tell. Take everything out of the shuttle, CPU, RAM, everything so its just a barebones itself. Plug it in and turn it on. Does it beep at you to indicate a lack of CPU or RAM, or beep at you at all? If it turns on and sits quiet itll probably be the shuttle.

Tried that ...but shuttles don't beep. Now trying to RMA it reluctantly (have to pay for shipping and been told it will take 4-6 weeks!)

Does the retailer begin with K, and end in T? If so ring them and they will organise a collection, but you have to ask them to organise one or else they wont offer it.

Failing that, if it is them, they'll refund your shipping if it does test faulty, as long as you have proof of postage costs.

It's not them, starts with an M, ends with T
They refuse to pay postage so since I have to pay for postage anyways I have returned it under the 7 day return policy and bought another off overclockers (so it doesn't take 6 weeks to get back to me and I dont have to deal with them ever again)

I also bought new memory incase it was the ocz ones that were causing the trouble.

Problem now is I am having the same issue with the overclockers one (won't boot) I notice there are a few differences between the 2 shuttles (will try to post pics later)

Tried different memory - checked
Tried different gfx cards - checked
Tried different shuttle - checked
CPU ? - I'm guessing the first (older) shuttle fried my e8400 :( I will have to RMA that and try one more time.

Heres some differences I saw. The newer one is on the right, quite a few capacitors have been updated, the cpu seating thingy (whatever you call it) has changed. Also theres more warning labels in places and the newer one came with a usb cable.
