I am planning on buying the other half a spa day type of thing for xmas (amongst other things)

has anyone done on that they can reccomend (not all spa days are created equal)

probably looking at something around the £50 mark

I think you'll struggle to get anything at that price - £50 gets you about ~30 minutes of treatment time at a decent spa.

As already said, £50 might not get you much in the way of treatments.
Last one the wife & I went to was £119 pp.

That did include a 2 course lunch though, use of all facilities for the day & 2 treatments each.

Looking forward to all the closet spa visitors that lurk OCuk that wont admit to going to a spa but hear and remember an awful lot of detailed information on them.

Triple your budget and you get a full day in a spa (a good spa, one that consists of more than a small swimming pool, a stinky steam room and one sauna), and a 60-90 minute treatment. Lunch of some kind is usually included.

I got a bit of a chub-on whilst getting a massage at a spa hotel in Thailand on my honeymoon. Enjoyed it, to be honest. Not sure it would be as much fun without the exotic nature of the experience (i.e. the ignorance, at the time, of not knowing of whether or not all Thai massages get a happy ending ;) ), so that's the limit of my experience - I've never bothered in the UK.

try Center Parcs Aqua Sana spa, they are around that price and you get a half day to try all the different steam rooms etc, you don't get any massage or anything though

I am going to re-quote you and star out one letter for comic effect :) From your post i still cant tell whether you got what you expected or not!

In seriousness, depends on where you go and who you get for massages.

You will never get that offer in a proper massage parlour but then again people wouldn't visit a proper massage parlour if they weren't after a proper massage. I have received a few massages in my time but only because the missus wanted to go get a couples massage. As relaxing as they can be, i wouldn't get one out of my own choice, better things to spend money on.... like fishing!

You'll want a couple hundred quid - Cost of giving her a full day there, including decent lunch and possibly snacks/drinks, as well as a bit of pocket money for you as you'll likely want to bog off and do something more interesting than lay around with pretty coloured rocks placed around you...

Benefits are mainly making her happy and earning mega Smartie Points.
Drawbacks are that she'll want to do it again some time.

You generally get what you pay for, although John Lewis apparently have a reasonable service.

I personally recommend the Bath Priory - Great facilities for Spa people, great food for the both of you... and decent bar, decent coffee, comfy lounge and a nearby town to explore for you!!
