I'm looking at doing a couple of nights at a Spa hotel with the girlfriend in February.

We looked at Oulton Hall and it says the following for Spa breaks and £318 I thought it wasnt too expensive.

"Two night spa break for 2 people sharing (single supplements apply) including dinner, breakfast & 75 minutes of spa treatments."

"2 Night Spa Break inc. Dinner
Includes dinner on both nights, breakfast & 75 minutes of spa treatments per person"

When I go to checkout its £318 a night, so £636!
The room itself for 2 nights and 2 people is £243, so that's £393 (£196.50 each) for the treatments.

Have Spa's always been this expensive? What other Spa's are there in/around Yorkshire that cost more in the region of £300 for a couple of nights. For £636 we could both fly somewhere for the weekend instead of getting a £200 back rub each!!

I've got nothing to suggest, but welcome to holidaying in the UK. Hotels in this country are a total rip. Once you get to 4/5 star spa hotels.. good luck.

do people actually enjoy spa weekends and all that nonsense ?

it's more of a mental break from your high stress life? if you don't have that do you really get anything out of it.

you could sit around being bored for a weekend at home and likely get a spa treatment offering the same level of service on a high street somewhere.

surely it's all advertising and too much hassle in reality and not at all "fun" or "relaxing"

TLDR
The idea has likely been seeded to your GF via a TV series repeatedly over the years as a form of brainwashing, the actual experience will be boring as hell and a massive disappointment.

it's a good "prop" for tv

I've been to Oulton hall during lockdown for 240 quid over night and spa treatment/meals included. I thought it was pretty decent to be honest although the room was a bit old - would recommend though!

I'll feed the troll

Yes

My life is relatively low stress. Yes, we both enjoy massages. It helps aching muscles recover from an active lifestyle

We never sit around bored all weekend. Where on the 'high street' can you get weekend break spa treatments in a nice relaxing hotel? I'm all ears

Advertising, yes you are right on this point. Advertising is how business' sell things! In reality a spa is relaxing. We both go to our local gym sauna, steam room and jaczzi 4 or 5 times a week. The spa would be something special - Though im not paying £200 for a back rub! :D

We hardly ever watch TV so im pretty sure its not been seeded to my GF over the years as brainwashing. I guess you'll understand when you get a girlfriend/boyfriend that it's nice to go on relaxing vacations once in a while

£240 for the night and treatments isnt bad. Was that for 2 people? (treatment each, breakfast and dinner for 2)

I'm not sure that's strictly Yorkshire, but on the cusp. I know plenty who have done the spa and have enjoyed it, the hotel is very nice.

I had a look at this, looks really nice but a 2 night spa retreat package is £1390. That's the cheapest I can see for Feb 16th - 18th

Ive been to Hoar Cross Hall a few times, was about £400 for two people, two nights all in including a treatment.

Thats in Staffordshire though not Yorkshire sorry.

Its not bad, the buffett breakfast and evening meal were both good, the evening meal was actually lovely, and outside in the "loung area?" there was a guy playing piano and we were having a few drinks, and the guy was playing all classical ********, but was taking requests so we got him playing some rock music (although the piano instrumental versions) which I actually thoroughly enjoyed if I am honest.

Also whilst most are old grannies, you do get teh occasional hottie in a swimsuit which is never a bad thing for eye candy.

We went to another one in the Cotswols somewhere, but that place was rubbish, I cant remember the name sorry.

To be honest, its not really my thing but...... its okay, the Mrs likes it. I wouldnt say I didnt enjoy it, but I wouldnt choose to go on my own accord.

We tend to go to Champneys a couple times a year. Handy since Mottram Hall recently joined the group so it's considerably closer than heading down south. As mentioned it's the treatments that always seems to sting. My wife always suggests i get a massage, but at £100 for an hour massage i'd rather just take that money and get 3 sports massages with my local sports therapist!

I tend to just leave the treatments to my wife and take the opportunity to go for a long run around the countryside and then join him in the spa area later in the day. That way everyone is happy!

Ragdale Hall in Leics is my favourite of the Spa's I've been to, but I've just checked and the first available date for a 2 night break is the 14th March and it's £990 in total!

Prices are always going to be inflated in mid-feb due to Valentine’s Day plus you’re leaving it quite late to book.

My partner and I have done spa weekends at The Grand in York a few times and it was excellent, with the added benefit that you’re in the centre of York so plenty to do. Not going to be cheaper than other suggested above though unfortunately.

For what its worth the price for Oulton Hall seems reasonable for a 2-night stay with dinner and treatments included.

Might be an idea. We'll probably do something like a 60 min spa treatment for £90 pp, then go out for a nice meal and a few drinks.
That shaves £271 off - the cost of accomodation for 1 night, breakfast and dinner.
