Strategy Informer reported a few weeks ago that Teardown were developing a Space Hulk video game based on the 1989 board game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. As we expected, this project has ran into legal problems with Games Workshop and has been closed down until the situation can be resolved.

Niklas Åstrand, developer of the Space Hulk remake, said: “Our web space provider alerted us today that they have noticed a traffic-rate way further than they would ever expect. At the moment people have downloaded files by a total of 327 gigabytes which is much over the agreement between us and the web space provider. As this is a spare-time project we do not want to upset the people who are nice and friendly to us and so we decided to shut down this page until we find a better solution.

Also a notification from Games Workshop reached us this morning. Until we have sorted everything with them we do not want risk any legal actions against us. So we await further information regarding this matter and kindly ask you to show some patience until we release more information.”

Not a surprise, I think we all saw this coming heh. But, they are working to resolve the legal problems so perhaps there is still some hope left for this project...

You can still download it here: http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/spacehulk/full-game/21575.html

GW are draconian when it comes ot their IP, which considering the nature of their IP is a crying shame and a tragedy imo. Warhammer is the type of franchise which can only grow with unsanctioned games etc and that they stamp down on them is bad management, they've lost sight of how the company started and the encouragement they used to give to this sort of thing.
