Space shuttle Discovery landing in approx 2 hours

Not as good as a launch, but I'll still be watching (I've had NASA TV on at least 12/7 the last two weeks anyway, so why not. :))

Yup, pretty much. That and they don't want to get too close too soon as there's some rather hazardous (to health) chemicals used onboard as fuel and propellant (Hydrazine for one).

Cool to watch, never appreciated before the angle the shuttle comes in to land at just prior to flaring.

Anyone know when the launch schedule for 2009 is released? Need to get myself over to the US to watch one before the fleet is retired.

Me too, but all you need is an errant act of god (a.k.a. hailstorm) and the whole lot is scuppered for three months. I'm not sure how practical it is to do that, certainly not months in advance anyway. :(

Agree with you there, I'd just go over in the hope that if it was delayed, it was only for a day or 2. Otherwise, I'd be hopping on a plane and heading elsewhere/home.
