Sofar I will give it a personal score of 7.5 out of 10.
Whats it like: reminds me more of a glorified Shadow grounds clone, which I personally enjoyed.
Whats it not like: Not like Dungeon Siege 1 or 2 at all. I think most ppl who are/will be disappointed in this game where/will be expecting a game similar to DS but it not even remotely like it. Not like a Diablo-Clone either.
Pros: GFX very nice, if you have a decent PC ofcourse, good animations, textures, lightning and explosion effects. Love the way you can setoff chain reaction of explosions from a distance and watch the enemy blow to pieces. Sound is good, can't comment on the music as I never play this type of game while Im accompanied by a band, ie. music always off. Gameplay sofar is above average, a bit repetetive, but the story does seem to be progressing nicely and things are fairly varied, to a point. A fair variety of weapons and addons sofar plus you get a rather agressive C3PO unit to follow and 'attempt' to protect you, although it has gotten me killed a few times as it was keen to try out some mines, must be an irish build mine detector bot. Seems like the game is a fair size, from what I can tell it will take you a while to complete it, plus you probably wanna play this twice cause you can choose to slowly turn into a cyborg by getting cybernetic replacements which are permanent but allow you to use different skills and weapons or you can remain human and continue to develop your human fighting skills, not 100% sure but I think it will affect the story line and missions depending on your choice.
Cons: Too much hype as ppl where expecting a futuristic Dungeon Siege type of game, including myself. After the initial disappointment I do like the game but I would have prefered a futuristic DS clone myself with Chr classes/items/tons of quests and exploration etc. Controls are a pain at first but after a while you get used to it and it is fine now, easy to move and to control the camera angles. Lack of chr choices, you only get 1 and apart from upgrades, new weapons and the choice to become cyborg or remain human, everything is the same, story and choices are too linear for my liking. Cant see much replayability in it, finish it once or perhaps twice to try out cyborg/human path and thats about it as the missions and maps would remain the same. Can't comment on multiplayer but I think it will be a little bland, although if there is a last man standing type of mode or a mode whereby you and your friends have to survive a constant onslaught of mobs that could be a bit of fun, but again, cant really comment on that for sure.
Conclusion: If you loved Shadowgrounds, you will love this. If you were expecting and wanting a Dungeon Siege followup, you will be disappointed. From what I have seen sofar, I do feel that this game may have been rushed out for release as I feel that so much more could have been added and done with this game but perhaps this is all the game was intended to be. For now, Im still enjoying, lets see how long that will last...
Cheers...
Edit: I just finished the game, played it through as staying human. My final score of this game would be a 5 out of 10. Not worth $49.99 and I feel I wasted yet more hard earned money on something that IMO is barely worth $19.99. In the end, the game is too short, finished in barely 1 day, there just is not enough content and variation to make this a worthy followup to Dungeon Siege 1&2 I am sorry to say. Wether this game was rushed out before they could add more to it or wether this is the way it is intended to be, I really do feel this is, yet another, video game with too much hype, major shortcomings and simply not enough gameplay to justify its price. This is becoming an all too common occurence with in the video games industry over the past few years. Calling this game Space Siege is misleading in every way to its customers who have experienced DS 1&2, it is simply banking on the fact that it hopes to sell more copies using X Siege name by using it as a smoke screen to hide a rather shallow game. Very disappointed.
