Space sim with a story ^^

Freelancer is awesome best space game out there IMO, X3 is also good BUT its got a story arc that needs the previous games to understand and id say about a month to get to grips with the controls and mechanics of the game, i found it quite boring to be honest, but freelancer is truly awesome.
 
Loved the Wing Commander games.

Also Privateer 2:The Darkening is one of my favs of all time. Good storyline that kept you interested but also had lots of variation in missions as well as a decent economy. Could have done with a bigger galaxy but apart from that it was close to perfection and well ahead of its time. It also starred Clive Owen and Christopher Walken if i remember correctly.

On the downside it was very buggy.
 
I want to get a new space game. Wondering should I go for sins of a solar empire. or X3?

With X3, do I need to play X2 to get an idea of the story. or is X3 a brand new story and then play X3 Terran Conflict?

How long does an X3 game take to complete? Also how about Freespace 2, how long does that take to complete and would you say its better then X3?

x3 terran conflict will be released about early oct the 3rd i believe.

Oh about egosofts x games, there all open ended so they er never end unless u die. The actual story bit of the game depends how fast u progress till the end.

Yeah, and it actually made those things seem plausible. The story was unmatched. Voice acting was pretty decent too.

Obviously I'd say the Star Wars stuff is also excellent but the OP has already played X-Wing Alliance.
