Can anyone recommend some?

Already played/completed HW1 and 2, and loved them. However I've recently played the demo of Galactic Civ2, which was quite enjoyable, so I might try and track that down cheaply.

What else is there on the market thats recommended?

There was a new "Space 4X" game released recently, but I'm buggered if I can remember the name of it...and is it any good?

but any other suggestions appriciated :)
 
Have you played Homeworld: Cataclysm as i ask this because you only mention 1 and 2.

Sins of a solar empire

Another one out there that has hw style battles in a 4x game cant recall the name atm tho. :(
 
Sword of the Stars.. about a year old, but i only just bought it, they recently release the collecters edition. there is a demo you can download
 
Sins of a Solar Empire. Cracking game, the first game that I downloaded through an online service (due to it not being released here for a stupid amount of time)
 
Lost Empires
Master Of Orion 2 (3...not so much)
Haegemonia (sp?)
Ascendancy (Another oldie but a goodie!)

And how could I forget Imperium Galactica 2! Really enjoyable...Imperium Galactica also however from memory (i've not played it for a while) it's quite 'mission' oriented towards the start but in the 4x style

X3 ? not played it but after reading this months PCzone I might buy it

ps loved the homeworld titles and Haegemonia. Didnt bother with Sins of a Solar empire due to no single player campaign altho I guess I should give it a go as I love RTS
 
I played HW2, absolutely loved it, awesome game. Then I got HW1, but really couldn't get into it at all...just didn't feel as good, so didn't play it right the way through; so didn't bother with Cataclysm.

SW: Empire at War I didn't like at all :(

X3 I didn't like either, didn't have any feeling of being in space at all.

Sins of a solar empire - I got the demo, tried to get into it but somehow can't, the interface really annoys me, seems more about fighting than development etc although it would help if the tutorials weren't so annoying. Might just give it a blast and learn as I play.
 
Another one for sins of a solar empire, even though there is no campaign mode it's still good fun.
 
IIRC, SW:EaW had really dodgy 2D RTS elements. Game itself wasn't great either.

Which reminds me...there was a SW mod for HW2 being made...I wonder how its getting on...was looking forward to that about 2 years ago!

There are mods with new planets etc and the unit limits can be disabled.
 
Hehe another vote for sins here.. Only discovered it recently but played it quite a lot :) Its very nice multiplayer too..
