Spain to lower speed limits

This will happen here then.

Most laws are turning kind of global.

They banned smoking in public places here......a while later ireland...a while later america.....

Global laws mean a future global goverment.

Absolutely retarded, it's a massive country and 110kph is a retarded slow limit... Especially at night 70 mph feels like a snails pace.

Meanwhile, in the NL the maximum speed is being raised from 120kph to 130 kph and the 80 kph avg speed camera zones are going to their old speed limits outside rush hour.
In Poland they raised the speed limit from 130 to 140.

Wrong reason altogether as well, because of the ''oil unrest'', until it's 2€ per liter I doubt many motorists will be discouraged to drive or care a lot...

Though, they could expect this when voting for the stupid left wing authoritarian morons that are running it.

For instance, he said, a car running on petrol will use 15% less fuel at the new, lower speed limit.
Yeah, but if someone wants to save fuel he can go 110 kph in the first place, rather than at the speed limit. Pure robbery to make more money from people in a hurry, typical left wing picking on motorists.

That's a bit of a stretch, just because a left wing party happens to be in government in Spain at this time, doesn't mean it's a left wing attitude to pick on motorists. The tories aren't exactly helping motorists here, are they?

They are authoritarian ******** too though. Need a right wing liberal party...

There's a dead straight mile stretch of road near me that used to be 60. For no apparent reason they've now changed it to a 40. So ******* annoying. I know it's only a small section but it just feels like your crawling along it now.

Oddly enough it's only signposted as a 40 at one end, although I guess that's no excuse to disregard it when heading that way.

Just do 80 on it. That would be my approach.*

*Note: This may result in you also accumulating license 'points'.
My dad received registered letters from the Spanish police for about 4 months.
They stopped coming after they realised he was never going to sign for them :)

100km/h in Spain will suck. There are plenty of newly-built EU-funded roads which are fantastic to blast along, and pottering along at 70mph will be rather depressing.
Hell, even in our rental 118d they were nice at 100+

Fantastic news... NOT. Looks like my 6 hour drive from the ferry to my apartment is now going to take 8. Although I did notice the article didn't mention toll roads. Hopefully these will stay at the current max speed to encourage people to use them.

Ridiculous, but speed camera/radar/police car coverage is so "poor" in Andalusia that I doubt it would make much difference round my neck of the woods.

Bit stupid really, if people want to save fuel they can choose to drive slower.

Stinks of money making through fining the motorist to me.

2 hours longer because the speed limit has been reduced by 7mph?

You may have assumed that I had previously stuck to the speed limit. I use to set the cruise control at around 90 - 95MPH (any faster and the benefit of speeding is outstripped by the need to refuel more often) .... but in addition to the reduced speed limits, the Spanish press (some local freebie my Father was reading) have stated that the sensitivity on tripping the speed cameras has been changed.... it use to be 160KM/H but now it is 10% + 2.
