My wife got a handfull of emails the other day on her iPhone:

They are all the same, the day after it was 50 or so, yesterday a few hundred and today 1800ish and counting

Ive tried adding the email address as a contact and blocking it - that hasn't worked

Ive tried (but cant find any way of doing it) creating a rule in the webmail provided by the domain host (Heart Internet)

I will try contacting them , but does anyone have any ideas to help stop the influx of emails ?

Cheers

edit think ive sorted it - changed email account password

fingers crossed ....

So changing your/her password stopped you receiving these? From the screenshot it looks like your/her account was sending them and these ones couldn't be sent.

Yeah, looks like your wife's account was compromised and used to send spam. The ones she recieved were bouncebacks.

Cheers chaps and I came to the same conclusion

So far, apart from the bounce backs which seem to be delayed it seems to have stopped !

Yeah, your mailbox password was compromised and was being used to send spam email which mailscan picked up on, the bounceback gives you a decode block which if you send it to support, they can tell you what it was in the email that was being flagged. (if it was in plain text, I'd run it myself, but its my weekend so balls to that)

That could be backscatter, the email address has been used as the fake return address in a spambot send. The email servers are just returning as refused. Best to change the password anyways though.

Looks like the password change has sorted it (yay!)

Support have also added something to reject / delete the bounce backs

I can pretty much guarantee that they didn't.. the bouncebacks are being created by the mail server, so there is nothing that they can do to stop the bounceback of a failed message, and with a compromised mailbox, adding an SPF record will do nothing, that only really helps with email spoofing.

What other people have said is correct. I know the bounceback.

You are sending using Heart Internets mail server, spam is being sent out and Heart Internet are blocking it before it goes out.

Do a virus scan on your computer and change your password.
