Right, weve had spam for a while now but its getting ridiculous, we had 60 in one day. What free software or whatever that is easy to use and set up would anybody recommend? Any ideas possible please, thank you.

unless you want to use a spamfilter like mcafee or norton i would suggest changing email addy and being very selective about who you give it to

we cant change our email as it is a business one, we probs do need a filter but does that mean its got to be set up by putting words in it etc, i just want a simple program that will get rid of all if not some of the spam.

There is no magic method to know what spam is or not. There are filters which learn on patterns and bayesian filters. You can also do things like only allowing people on your white list to contact you... clearly not much use in a business.

I'd recommend something like PopFile. It doesn't stop spam, but can put a tag on the subject of spam messages and you could then use a rule within your email client to filter these messages :)

It's free, and runs in the background. You need to setup your mail client to connect via your local machine, but i think it's your username bit that is different. It'll be documented of course. But it's been a while since i last used it. But when i was using it, it worked brilliantly. I think you configure it using a webconsole.

most generic spamfilters come with different sets of rules but once you install one of them and set it to learning mode you can usually get them to work effectively without any intervention from yourself

Google your e-mail address and you might find the source.

I did and it turned out that I have e-mail links in couple of forums. It stopped few days later but still getting few odds ones.

Is your email address provided by your ISP or is it part of a domain registered to your business? If it is the latter then you could migrate your email service to a supplier that'll filter spam and viruses for you - someone like Simply provide virus and spam filtration services...

Dan.
