Phone is an samsung S21.

Not sure what has happened but recently after unlocking the phone, it either doesn't allow you to do anything until you press the home button, or it opens a new tab in chrome for some random website as soon as you press to open any app.

So far I have tried clearing cache and data in Google and chrome apps But that hasn't worked.

Does anyone have any other ideas what to try before I reset the phone?

Thanks

Pete

Not worth the Agro. Just factory reset. That way you won’t be worried about anything left behind after you try to fix this issue.

Although it might be opening a page in Chrome, the problem might not be Chrome, it's just that it's your default browser. If you made Samsung Internet your default browser, that might be opening instead... I think a rogue app is passing a URL to be opened (by aforementioned default browser).

I agree, I would probably just factory reset to be safe.

Did you side load anything?

As above, it's highly likely a rogue app running in the background pushing these links that forces whatever your default browser is to open. I suggest checking what apps are running in the background and disabling/uninstalling any suspicious ones one by one so you'll know to avoid it if you do factory reset.

Thanks, on earlier advice i ended up resetting the phone. No new apps were installed prior to the issue but I guess it could gave happened through an updated one?

Anyway issue has gone for now, thanks for the advise
