Hi,

We have tickets for the Spanish Grand Prix in May. This will be my first ever Gran Prix and I am interested to know what happens with the commenatry. I am used to watching on TV and listening to Martin Brundle.

I know there are giant TV screens around the circuit, but is there commentary during the race and if there is, is it likely to be in Spanish? Any tips or technology for my wife and I to listen to the Sky commentary during the race?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've not been to Spain, but in Belgium the at the track commentary team spoke English, French and German. They were 3 separate teams and they took it in turns to commentate for a minute or so.

However I always get a KangarooTV (now FanVision) which uses the Radio5 Live audio for English commentary over all the F1 sessions (streams the track commentary for all the support races). GP2 had a choice of language.

So either way, assuming Spain is the same as Belgium, you will either get around half or maybe a third of the on track commentary in english, and if you use a FanVision (which I highly recommend) you will get R5L for all the F1 sessions.

Another vote for FanVision.

However, if you don't fancy getting one, I believe when I went to Valencia GP in it's first year, I used one of those single ear clip headphone things that pick up the local track radio station and I'm pretty sure it was in English.

Just get a 3G card locally and watch the ocuk live commentary race feed thread ;)

I've been to barca tons of times and just listen to the English commentator at the track, there's loads of big screens anyway to keep up with the action.

When I went to the German GP I payed £3 to Vodafone to access my UK minutes/data. I had setup a VPN to spoof Sky Go however at the time Vodafone proxied the data back to the UK anyway so it worked with no work around. I shared a hotpsot on my phone to my ipad, I then just used headphones to listen to the commentary.

The old fanvision model was ok so the new one should be much more worth it. Don't really need it at Silverstone, but would def get one for watching abroad.

Many thanks for the replies.

I don't really want to go to the GP and watch the race on a miniture TV so I will pass on the Fanvision. I might look at the headphone solution or just listen to the local race commentary which is hopefully at least partly in English.

You don't watch the race on the FanVision, you set it to live timing and watch the race on the track. Without a good commentary or live timing you can very quickly loose track of what is going on as the cars spread out.

Yep, that is what we did, as we didn't know how good the screens were. It was handy to keep track of the timings/positions with it and have it for the 5 Live commentary without needing a phone or separate radio.

Really? Jeez. OcUK really kicking themselves in the teeth there by banning you from the shop aswell.

First time I've heard of that happening.
well wasnt banned from the shop as well but no free shiping during bans so :P

they should check peoples birthdays before they set a long ban date over something that wasnt serious enough to have the post edited

sorry for the necro but as fanvision isnt happening id share the fact that radio commenary is broadcast within the Circuit, tuning in to 94.4 FM.

+1.

Out of curiosity anyone else heading to Barcelona this weekend?
