Seen you coming.

I didn't pay, that was the price of the local BMW/Audi/Porsche Approved bodyshop. Someone reversed into me so their insurance paid. I'm sure some dodgy backstreet painter in Slough would have been cheaper but I'd prefer to keep my paint warranty, as I would if I owned an Audi TT.

tbh an Insurance job has the price inflated purely because its an insurance job.

Go in as a private individual and ask them to quote you a reasonable price and they wouldnt have quoted you anything like that. They know somebody else is paying, so they charge as much as they can get away with. This doesn't happen with private transactions because the buyer would just go elsewhere.

To be honest I don't think the garage in question would have gone cheaper (Bodytechnics), they are Ferrari and Porsche approved. To be honest I was surprised at their labour rates, it was about £40 an hour which is much less than if I went to get a set of brake pads changed by an apprentice at the local BMW dealer.

But yeah I could have got it done cheaper somewhere else no doubt, I wasn't paying though. ;)

What went on here then, did Mark use one of those words I used to get is 4 day ban, mine wasn't even a swear word either, just some mod took issue and I got kicked out for a few days, though I did take satisfaction from the murder of the mod, I got his head in a jar, it's here now, I'm looking at it.......swearing at it come to think of it.

Oh the irony.

how did the bill end up at £900 if the labour rate was £40 an hour ?

does it take over 20 hours to respray 2 panels and roll a dent out ? presumably they must have replaced metal rather than just repaired it for that money then ?

This isnt how it works - well, not with most franchised places at least. They don't get the insurance work unless they play to the insurance companies tune and this means very very low hourly rates. Some bodycentres have hourly labour rates of 5 times LESS than service would charge a retail customer.

my opinion was born out of a previous experience where the Audi dealership charged £900 to repair a scratch ! If thats 5 x lower than the usual hourly rates i dread to think what they would charged me :D

shame..it can't be very old, its one the the recently facelifted models

the TT is starting to look a little familiar now...when you see the RCZ it cuts a much more striking figure (shame about the front end)... but I notice they are actually built by magna-steyr (in austria?) so hopefully wont burst into flames with electrical faults.
