Not sure if this should go here or in Hard Drives, but here goes.

I'm after some reassurance really. My drives are configured as below. Drive H is a disk in my DAS and drive I is the other 3 disks in my DAS in a windows spanned volume. What I want to know is, if I copy everything from drive H into drive I, will I be able to then import the disk that is currently drive H into the span to bring the total up to 8TB rather than 6TB?

If that's possible, all's fine and dandy, although if anyone knows a way of importing the disk into the span without losing any data and without having to move nearly 2TB of stuff around, that'd be even more awesome.

Cheers

Yes, this should work and I was under the impression that extending the volume was non-destructive, which is kinda the point. You run low on space, add a disk and extend.

In the end I built a VM and added a load of hard drives and tested. I can't just combine the disks into one span, but I can copy everything off of the 2TB drive into the bigger span and then add the 2TB drive into the span.

ETA on the move is still ~5 hours. :(
